When I developed the idea for Hunting With Hank in 1995, I produced a pilot episode, composed and recorded the music theme and lyrics, negotiated the first agreement with the Outdoor Life Network and began taping shows in 1996. Volume I (the first season) began airing in January of 1997. It consisted of 7 shows. Volume II (eight shows) aired in 1998, followed by 13 shows for Volume III in 1999. Since then we have produced almost 100 additional episodes spread across Hunting with Hank, Upland Days with Dash and Dez, Dash in the Uplands and Dez Young's Wingshooter's Journal.
I have been very fortunate in my life to have accomplished every professional goal or dream I have ever had. But none of those goals would mean a thing without someone to share them with. You've probably seen my wife Karenanne Swift on many of our shows. She is truly my "life partner". She's beautiful, intelligent and a terrific step-mom to my two grown children, Glenn and Stacy. Without Karenanne's support and love I wouldn't have started Young Communications, and Hunting With Hank would never have been born.
Dez will performing a dog training seminar for the amateur dog trainer plus an exclusive look behind the making of his popular television show Hunting with Hank, Dash in the Uplands. & Upland Days with Dash and Dez. Dez will also be a keynote speaker at our Sportsman Banquet on Saturday evening
Landon Mayer’s angling success is fueled by an addiction to pursuing large trout with small flies and lightweight fly-fishing equipment. Mayer enthusiastically teaches and demonstrates his techniques and on-river knowledge to fellow anglers and has developed innovative strategies for sighting, hooking, and landing selective trout. He shares these tips and secrets in his books 101 Trout Tips: A Guide’s Secrets, Tactics and Techniques (new for 2015), Colorado’s Best Fly Fishing, Sight Fishing for Trout, and How to Catch the Biggest Trout of Your Life, in addition to two DVDs: Landing the Trout of Your Life and Weapons of Bass Production, both of which also feature John Barr.
Landon’s passion for fly-fishing has allowed him to make several noteworthy contributions to the sport on and off the water. This has included travels to fly-fishing related organizations of the Mid-Atlantic, West, Pacific Northwest, Southwest, and Southern states, as well as teaching through guided trips, fly-fishing classes, presentations, and demonstrations of his unique techniques.
Mayer is a contributing writer for Fly Fisherman and High Country Angler magazines. His contributions also have been featured in publications such as Fly Rod and Reel, American Angler, Southwest Fly Fishing, Field and Stream, Fly Fusion, and Fish and Fly magazines.
As an ambassador in the fly–fishing industry, Mayer represents several lines including Simms Fly Fishing apparel and is a royalty fly designer for Umpqua Feather Merchants. He is also an advisory team member of Simms, Bauer Reels, R. L. Winston Rods, Scientific Angler, Smith Optics, Fish Pond, Yeti Coolers, and Casio Pro Trek watches.
Jason’s credits much of his passion for fishing to his father. “Some of my earliest and happiest memories involve fishing,” he recalls. “I remember many trips to Canada or Minnesota for pike and small mouth.” He learned fly fishing from other mentors, who were generous with their time and patient with the persistent questions of an enthusiastic neophyte angler.
The blessings we receive are meant to be passed on to others, so to share his passion and knowledge, in 2002, Jason began a career as an outdoor writer. His articles appear regularly in national fly fishing magazines and he is a feature writer for American Angler and written four books. In 2017, Stackpole/Headwaters Books released his most recent book, ‘Nymph Masters; Fly Fishing Secrets from Expert Anglers’. He appears at shows and fly fishing events throughout North America.
A native Midwesterner, Jason and Jo, his wife, live on a small farm in Northern Illinois. They’ve passed on their love of the outdoors to their children, Erin and Evan, and most recently, their ‘in-law’ children, Clay and Michelle.
Rick Pope, Founder and Chairman of TFO said, “Jason epitomizes a life-long commitment to sharing his vast knowledge welcoming new anglers to this great sport, while captivating us with his deep insights of trout behavior.”
